Maja was a normal 16 year-old girl in Bosnia when, in 1993, a mortar shell fell into her courtyard, critically injuring her and killing six of her friends. Her legs were shattered, her face and arm were peppered with shrapnel. She became one of only three children evacuated to Croatia, then Germany and eventually the U.S. One year later, after over 100 surgeries including an amputated leg, Maja taught herself English with the help of the Cosby Show, enrolled herself in high school, joined the marching band, put herself through college, swam with Winter the dolphin and now runs a successful web development company. Maja’s blueprint for success is easily understood and, when applied, lays the foundation for success, both personally and professionally.
